PREVIEW: BRUMMIES v GLASGOW

Tuesday July 05, 2022
BIRMINGHAM can make it a hat-trick of home wins when they host high-flying Glasgow on Wednesday (July 6, 7.30).

The Curtis Sport Brummies have triumphed in their previous two outings at Perry Barr, sneaking a win against Plymouth before earning a comfortable victory over Redcar last time out.

The Second City side were written off by outsiders ahead of those fixtures due to their opponents being play-off bound while the Brummies linger at the wrong end of the Championship table.

And that will more than likely be the case ahead of Wednesday's meeting too with Glasgow currently sitting pretty in second.

The Scots have been regularly breaking the 50-point barrier at home in recent weeks but their form on their travels has been very up and down.

Glasgow are led by former Grand Prix racer Craig Cook and also include Great Britain's Speedway of Nations Gold medalist Tom Brennan who has been a common guest booking for the Brummies this season.

Former Birmingham riders Danyon Hume and Ulrich Ostergaard are also involved on what should be an entertaining night of Speedway.

A change in the averages sees Claus Vissing move away from the No.1 position for the Brummies - Lewis Kerr, who is a proven performer around Perry Barr and known for his gating prowess, will take up that role as a guest for the injured Josh Auty.

Justin Sedgmen, who has recently been snapped up by top-flight side Sheffield, moves to No.5 in an otherwise unchanged line-up for the Curtis Sport Brummies.

And after a positive display last time out, teenage reserve James Pearson is looking forward to getting back in front of his home fans.

"We've had two good wins in our last two meetings at Birmingham so it's good to have a bit of confidence behind us," he said.

"I didn't expect those if I'm being honest, especially the ten point advantage we had over Redcar.

"But at the end of the day that was a very good day for all of us and it was a good win for the boys.

"We know Glasgow have got a strong team and they'll probably fancy their chances, but we've been going good at home in the last few so who knows, we could surprise another team, you never know."

BIRMINGHAM: Lewis Kerr, Stefan Nielsen, Claus Vissing, Ashley Morris, Justin Sedgmen, James Shanes, James Pearson.

GLASGOW: Craig Cook, Danyon Hume, Ulrich Ostergaard, Benjamin Basso, Tom Brennan, Broc Nicol, Connor Bailey.
