BIRMINGHAM'S frustrating Northern tour concluded with a narrow defeat at Ashfield - leaving them with one point for their weekend's efforts.

But it could have been so much more as the BRC Roofing Brummies held a six-point lead with four races to go, only to be reeled in just as they were at Workington earlier this month.

In the end, skipper Jason Lyons took victory in the last race but Richard Sweetman was squeezed out by Tigers duo Joe Screen and Travis McGowan to give the Scottish side a narrow win.

Screen had started the meeting with a fall in Heat 1 and the Brummies took full advantage with a 5-1, but Glasgow levelled in Heat 4 as Steve Johnston was disqualified, being adjudged the cause of Josh Grajczonek’s crash.

Neither side could gain a decisive advantage mid-meeting, but the visitors seemed to have made a vital move forward when Lyons and Johnston collected maximum points in Heat 11 to put them six-points up – only for that lead to be almost wiped
out immediately by a Glasgow maximum in the next.

Another Tigers 5-1 in Heat 13 turned the meeting completely, Johnston being disqualified again when he went down under Grajczonek’s challenge, and two shared heats at the end were enough for the Scottish side, with Brummies taking a Premier League point for losing by less than seven.

GLASGOW: Travis McGowan 12+1, Joe Screen 9+1, Josh Grajczonek 9, Nick Morris 8+2, John Branney 5+1, Jamie Courtney 2+1, Lee Dicken 1.

BIRMINGHAM: Jason Lyons 11+1, Richard Sweetman 10, Steve Johnston 8+1, Richard Lawson 7+2, Kyle Newman 7, Justin Sedgmen 1+1, Aaron Summers r/r.
