BIRMINGHAM slipped to a second defeat of their Northern tour at Berwick - and remain pointless from the weekend ahead of Sunday's trip to Glasgow.

Veteran duo Jason Lyons and Steve Johnston's last-race 5-1 at Shielfield Park left the BRC Roofing Brummies just short of a Premier League point with the Bandits giving the more solid all-round display.

Lyons and Johnston were backed up by Richard Sweetman with two early heat wins, but with the Brummies' last places being all too frequent the Bandits recorded a series of 4-2s and then a 5-1 in Heat 10 to go ten points up.

Lyons immediately won a tactical ride in Heat 11 with Johnston third to halve the deficit, but the killer blow came with 5-1s to the Bandits in Heats 12 and 14, both won by inspired reserve Michal Rajkowski.

It left the Brummies again cursing the double injury absence of Chris Kerr and Aaron Summers, with the rider replacement facility for Summers collecting just a solitary point.

Brummies complete their tour on Sunday with Workington's Richard Lawson guesting for Kerr at reserve.
