BIRMINGHAM slipped below Scunthorpe in the Premier League standings after going down to a 16-point defeat at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday.

The Scorpions took revenge over the BRC Roofing Brummies for Wednesday's result at Perry Barr, and added to their impressive list of home results which includes a similar scoreline against King's Lynn.

Brummies lacked race winners, and skipper Jason Lyons' successes in his first two rides were the only ones achieved by the team all evening.

A point from the meeting was still a realistic possibility until the closing stages, but a Heat 11 5-1 from David Howe and Jerran Hart over Steve Johnston and Jake Anderson left the Brummies requiring tactical rides.

But both Aaron Summers in Heat 12 and Richard Sweetman in Heat 14 were beaten by home riders, meaning they only scored four points - and in between those races, Howe and Magnus Karlsson banged in another home 5-1 in Heat 13.

That ensured the Brummies would have nothing to show for their efforts, and the impressive Howe rounded things off by winning Heat 15 in the culmination of a week of splendid duels between himself and Lyons.

SCUNTHORPE: David Howe 14, Carl Wilkinson 11, Magnus Karlsson 10+1, Tero Aarnio 8+1, Simon Lambert 8+1, Jerran Hart 4+1, Joel Parsons r/r.

BIRMINGHAM: Aaron Summers 10+1, Jason Lyons 10, Richard Sweetman 7+1, Justin Sedgmen 6+3, Steve Johnston 6, Jake Anderson 0, Chris Kerr r/r.
