BIRMINGHAM'S dream season continued with another Perry Barr masterclass to brush Sheffield's challenge aside.

Skipper Jason Lyons scored a sublime paid maximum and it was a points bonanza for the rest of the team too, with qualification to the next round of the Cup all but assured barring a cataclysmic disaster at Owlerton next week.

Sheffield suffered a host of problems including early engine failures for three of their riders, and a number of falls - the most serious of which led to Josh Auty's withdrawal with a foot injury.

The visitors were grateful for the efforts of Josef Franc with two race wins and Hugh Skidmore with one, but there was only so much they could do as the remaining Tigers struggled to make an impression.

Brummies never let up from one to seven, with Jake Anderson enjoying his best night at this level - and the elder statesmen of the side Lyons and Steve Johnston showed there is plenty of racing left in their tanks with wheel-perfect 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15 to give the home side their biggest margin of victory since the 2007 relaunch.

BIRMINGHAM: Jason Lyons 14+1, Steve Johnston 10+4, Aaron Summers 10, Richard Sweetman 9+2, Chris Kerr 9, Justin Sedgmen 6+1, Jake Anderson 5+3.

SHEFFIELD: Josef Franc 10, Hugh Skidmore 6, Ricky Ashworth 3, Paul Cooper 3, Paul Starke 2+1, Richard Hall 1, Josh Auty 0.
