BIRMINGHAM'S remarkable start to the season continued with a 52-41 win at Sheffield on Thursday.

Talented reserve Justin Sedgmen notched 13+3 and Steve Johnston, who is now a full Birmingham asset, was superb for his 13-points in this Premier Trophy tie.

Sheffield managed to provide only four race winners all night and suffered their heaviest home defeat in over a decade.

Josh Auty won a tactical ride for the hosts but Birmingham were able to pile on the pressure late on to finish the job and they now have one foot in the semi-finals of the Premier Trophy - but they must win their last two home group meetings.

BRC Roofing Brummies boss Graham Drury said: "Sheffield is a really tough place to get a result so full credit to the lads, I'm highly delighted."

Birmingham continue their Trophy campaign with a trip to Stoke on Saturday.

SHEFFIELD: Richard Hall 10, Josh Auty 8+1, Josef Franc 7, Ricky Ashworth 6, Hugh Skidmore 5+2, Arlo Bugeja 3+2, Paul Cooper 2.

BIRMINGHAM: Justin Sedgmen 13+3, Steve Johnston 13, Richard Sweetman 10+1, Jason Lyons 7, Chris Kerr 6, Aaron Summers 2+1, Jake Anderson 1.
