RICHARD Sweetman raced to an impressive eleven-point haul in the Scottish sunshine but couldn't stop Birmingham from going down to a 49-41 defeat at Glasgow.
The Australian had three race wins from his five rides, but he failed to get the usual back-up from the regular big-hitters and the result now means that the Brummies can't possibly finish in second place in the Premier League table.
It was generally a closely fought affair with the lead changing hands several times during the first half of the meeting.
Tomasz Piszcz and Rusty Harrison put the Brummies 5-1 ahead in the opening race only for the Tigers to immediately level things up in heat 2.
Sweetman and Ludvig Lindgren then restored Birmingham's lead with a 4-2 in heat 3, but Glasgow went in front for the first time with a 5-1 in the very next race.
Back came Piszcz and Harrison with a 4-2 in heat 5, but another four-pointer in heat 8 put Glasgow 25-23 ahead.
The Tigers then raced into a 40-32 lead following the completion of heat 12 and although Sweetman and Lee Herne pulled four-points back with a maximum in heat 14, another 5-1 for the Scottish outfit in the final race secured all the league points.
GLASGOW 49: James Grieves 15, Lee Dicken 12+3, William Lawson 9+1, Josh Grajczonek 7, Mitchell Davey 4, Shane Parker 2+1, Sandi Conda 0
BIRMINGHAM 41: Richard Sweetman 11, Tomasz Piszcz 7+1, Rusty Harrison 7+1, Jason Lyons 8, Lee Herne 4+2, Ludvig Lindgren 2+1, Craig Branney 2
