KING'S LYNN 53 BRUMMIES 37

Thursday August 14, 2025
BIRMINGHAM went down to an eighth successive ROWE Motor Oil Premiership defeat as they were beaten 53-37 at King’s Lynn on Thursday.

The Curtis Sport Brummies were firmly in the meeting at the halfway stage in Norfolk, trailing by only two points after Heat 7, but a run of Stars advantages saw the home side pull clear.

High spots for the visitors were competitive showings from Keynan Rew and Matej Zagar who both reached double figures, and a battling display from Rising Star Sam Hagon who showed lots of fight and thoroughly deserved his paid-nine score.

But it was a nightmare return to the Adrian Flux Arena for Brummies No.1 Tobiasz Musielak who only defeated an opponent when Chris Harris suffered engine failure in Heat 5 which denied the Stars a 5-1 from the race.

That was one of two Lynn stoppages which assisted the Brummies as Ben Cook also broke down when leading Heat 2, enabling guest Simon Lambert to take the win.

And with Zagar riding a smart race to block out Jan Kvech and Niels-Kristian Iversen in Heat 6, followed up by a 4-2 from Rew and Paco Castagna in the next, there were some promising signs with the score at 22-20.

But the Stars then took control with successive 4-2s in Heats 8 and 9, Zagar making the start in the latter but being overtaken by a fine ride by Richard Lawson.

The gap went up to ten points with a 5-1 from Kvech and Iversen in Heat 10, before Hagon took an excellent second place in Heat 11, splitting the Stars combination as he finished ahead of the vastly experienced Nicolai Klindt whilst Musielak could make no impression at the back.

Brummies boss Chris Adams made his tactical move in Heat 12 with an extra ride for Zagar, but it did not have the desired outcome as Harris hit the front for the Stars whilst Zagar and Rew chased the same line on turn one, with the rest that Rew ended up out of contention and the home side took another 4-2.

The match had now slipped away, although Zagar again rode strongly to split Kvech and Klindt in Heat 13 before a Lynn 5-1 from Lawson and Cook in Heat 14 extended their advantage to 20-points.

However, there was a late consolation for the Brummies as Lawson broke down on the start-line in Heat 15, with Rew and Hagon taking full advantage as they raced clear of Cook for a 5-1.

Birmingham now have three senior matches remaining before the closure of their current era in the sport, and next up is a tough trip to champions Belle Vue on Monday.
