BIRMINGHAM Bulls were victorious in a Super Heat against Kent after a 44-44 draw in the National Development Trophy at Perry Barr on Monday.

The visitors fought back from eight points down to force a last heat decider, which ended in a 3-3 as home racer Tom Spencer ended the unbeaten run of Ben Morley.

That gave the teams a point apiece, but it was the Ductair Bulls who took the extra after Kent guest Freddy Hodder was disqualified when Spencer came down in the Super Heat.

A far from ideal start in Heat One brought bike troubles for Arran Butcher; Senna Summers take his place alongside Darryl Ritchings in the re-run to start the Bulls on a heat advantage.

Summers then shot out of the gate in his second ride to deliver a heat win and a valuable 5-1 with his partner Eli Meadows in Heat Two.

The Eagles quickly returned the favour with a 5-1 of their own after both Sam McGurk and Max James crashed into the third bend giving Vinnie Foord his first win of the night in the third heat.

Meadows slid out of Heat Four leaving Tom Spencer to secure two points, unable to overcome Eagles skipper Ben Morley who brought the two teams equal at 12-12.

The teams continued level with a split Heat Five followed by another in the sixth, the score at 18-18.

Foord secured his second heat win of the night and pushed the Eagles two-points clear in Heat Seven.

This lead didn't last into Heat Eight when both Nathan Hargrave and Charlie Wood fell separately giving the Bulls an invaluable five points.

Engine troubles in Heat Nine for James left Mcgurk to fight for two points, unable to match the sterling form of Morley.

In Heat Ten a remarkable pass from Ritchings secured the Bulls a heat advantage that placed them three points ahead with the score 31-28.

Eagles guest Freddy Hodder failed to make it off the start line in Heat 11 and his partner Nathan Hargrave suffered a collision that prompted his withdrawal from the meeting. This awarded the Bulls their second 5-0 and Spencer his first heat win.

At the beginning of Heat 12 the score sat at 36-28, Foord delivered another heat win to close the gap between the teams by two points.

In Heat 13, Morley secured yet another clever heat win bringing the scoreline to 40-36.

Summers burst through the tapes in Heat 14 opting for a 15 meter handicap before his team-mate Max James suffered a hard crash on the first bend that saw the heat awarded in favour of the eagles. The score stood level again at 41-41.

A strong ride from Spencer in Heat 15 maintained an even score line, holding off a relentless challenge from Hodder. This brought the meeting to a Super Heat In that race, the Kent Eagles marched ahead but contact between Spencer and Hodder saw Hodder excluded, giving Bulls Skipper Darryl Ritchings a second opportunity to blast out the gate and push his team to victory.

Ritchings said: “For me coming back after missing two meetings with the boys it's been nice to get back and as a team take them to a Super-Heat, that's fantastic.”

“It’s a real shame this is the last meeting at Perry Barr for us but all of the boys are still riding and we’ll go again at their place.”
