| | BIRMINGHAM CEO Nigel Tolley was thrilled to see his side round off the season in style as they sealed their first away win of the year at Ipswich.
The Curtis Sport Brummies snatched victory at the death with a Heat 15 5-1 earning them a 46-44 triumph at Foxhall.
Freddie Lindgren wrapped up a faultless 15 point maximum in that one whilst Tom Brennan finished on 14+3 after the pair combined for a hat-trick of 5-1s in the final five races as the Brummies successfully came from six points down.
Zach Cook also raced solidly overall to score paid double figures whilst there were key contributions from reserves Michael Palm Toft and Leon Flint with guest choice Antti Vuolas failing to register a single point.
It means after waiting three months for a win and going on a run of 14 straight losses in all competitions - the Brummies end their team programme by tasting success twice in the space of 72 hours and almost doubling their league points tally in the final week!
“It feels absolutely amazing,” Tolley said.
“Freddie has made a fantastic captain, not just a fantastic rider out there on the track - but of course, he was superb.
“The same goes for Tom and Zach and it was nice to see the reserves play their part as well.
“I think in Heat 15, the nerves were there more than they have been all the way through the season.
“I just wish we were only three-quarters of the way through the season because of the way we’ve got it together.
“It does make you wonder doesn’t it? But we’ve ended the league year on a real high and it certainly changes the feeling as we head towards the off-season.”
Birmingham stage the next round of the British Youth Championships at Perry Barr on Monday (September 2, 7.30pm) with a four team tournament for the Alan Grahame Memorial Trophy taking place on Monday, September 9 (7.30pm) between Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry and Cradley.
IPSWICH 44: Troy Batchelor 9+2, Scott Nicholls 8+1, Keynan Rew 8+1, Dan Thompson 8+1, Danny King 7, Jordan Jenkins 4+1, Emil Sayfutdinov R/R. BIRMINGHAM 46: Freddie Lindgren 15, Tom Brennan 14+3, Zach Cook 9+1, Michael Palm Toft 5+1, Leon Flint 3+1, Antti Vuolas 0, Piotr Pawlicki R/R. Birmingham win the aggregate point 93-87.
