TWO MORE ADDED FOR BRUMMIES

Thursday March 11, 2021
BIRMINGHAM have just one team place to fill after James Shanes and Valentin Grobauer signed on for 2021.

They join former Grand Prix star and Great Britain International Chris Harris alongside Ashley Morris, Paco Castagna and Jack Thomas in the Brummies' line-up.

Shanes, a firm fans' favourite at Perry Barr, is back after captaining the side in their first season in the Championship in 2019.

His campaign was cut short however after sustaining multiple injuries, including a broken back.

But with the events of 2020 giving him extra time to recover, Shanes is delighted to be back with the Brummies.

"I'm massively grateful to David (Mason "“ co-owner) and Laurence (Rogers "“ team manager) for bringing me back," Shanes said.

"It was a no brainer for me really; I've loved every minute of my time with Birmingham so far, I was made to feel really welcome by everyone at the club from the moment I walked through the door and I can't wait to see everyone there again.

"I'm so ready for this year now and I just can't wait to get back out there.

"I've definitely been giving it everything I've got behind the scenes and it's almost time to step things up another level and make sure I'm as ready as I can be for this season.

"I'll be nervous the first time I go back out there don't get me wrong but it's now down to me to get my head screwed back on and make 2021 a year to remember for all of the right reasons."

Meanwhile, German-born newcomer Grobauer is finally excited to be planning for his debut having first signed for the Brummies on the eve of the 2020 season before the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

And after a testing first experience of British Speedway with Somerset a couple of years ago, Grobauer admits he feels in a much better place to grab this opportunity with both hands.

"I worked a lot last winter," he said.

"Not only on my body fitness but also about head fitness too with mental health.

"I want to focus more on the important things for racing.

"I feel so much better prepared as I know how it is now and what I have to be ready on.

"I am really looking forward to this new chance."
