ISLE OF WIGHT 37 BRUMMIES 53

Tuesday June 13, 2017
BIRMINGHAM roared back to winning ways with an impressive 53-37 away victory over the Isle of Wight.

The patched-up Surestop Brummies bounced back from Monday's bruising defeat at Kent to leave Smallbrook with four Travel Plus National League points.

It was an excellent showing from the Perry Barr outfit as they delivered eight race wins and ran just four last places.

And team boss Graham Drury declared himself proud of the effort shown by his depleted side.

Said Drury: "We had a few riders carrying knocks after the meeting on Monday, so to come away with a win was a great result in the circumstances.

"The Isle of Wight can be a tough place to go, but we had good contributions throughout the side and rode very well.

"I've got nothing but praise for the promotion at the Isle of Wight, we enjoyed our trip there as we always do and it's nice to be coming back with four points."

Liam Carr battled through the pain barrier to bag an outstanding 15-point haul whilst guesting No.1 Zach Wajtknecht and Tom Bacon also impressed.

Layne Cupitt earned a well-deserved heat 15 appearance after notching a vital score, whilst Macauley Leek and Alex Spooner, guesting for the injured Kyle Roberts, made important contributions in the lower order.

The Brummies will be back in action at Perry Barr when they host Lakeside next Wednesday, June 21 (7.30).
