| | EMOTIONS were running high around the terraces at Belle Vue as Birmingham made one last valiant stand in the face of their almost certain demise with a 56-39 defeat last night.
The uncertainty that has plagued the club over the last couple of weeks looks to be finally coming to a conclusion, one which will see the Midlands outfit permanently erased from the 2014 Elite League.
But even if the riders could sense the end was near, they certainly didn't show it; they fought hard for every point.
The Aces were led by newly appointed skipper Scott Nicholls and soon asserted their dominance over the meeting and stretch their lead to 22-8 after just 5 heats.
In an effort to even things out, Brummies duo Ben Barker and Danny King delivered two hard-fought tactical rides to bring the scores up to 39-26 by Heat 10; but in the end it was to no avail, and the home side powered ahead to take the win.
BELLE VUE 56: Craig Cook 11+2, Charles Wright 10+2, Matej Zagar 10+1, Richie Worrall 8, Scott Nicholls 7+1, Michael Palm Toft 6, Lee Payne 4+2.
BIRMINGHAM 39: Ben Barker 13, Nico Covatti 10+1, Danny King 8+1, Paul Starke 6, Jason Garrity 2, Simon Lambert 0, Bartosz Zmarzlik R/R.
