BIRMINGHAM Brummies gave Elite League title favourites Poole a real fright before going down 48-42 in Wednesday's Elite League clash in Dorset.
The Perry Barr outfit, who have been a valuable addition to the top flight of British Speedway this season, did themselves proud with a resilient display but came unstuck in the closing stages when it mattered most.
Polish World Cup winner Krzysztof Kasprzak was in fine form with 11-point from four completed rides and he was also excluded in one outing.
And Kasprzak, who has been a controversial member of the Birmingham side this season with his inconsistency, was the last heat hero as he pulled off a stunning pass on Holder with Ward third and Danny King at the back to gain a consolation point for Birmingham.
Boss Graham Drury said: "I'm very proud of this result. We might even have won but I thought we had some bad luck along the way and I have to give credit to the lads. Poole know they have been in a meeting."
POOLE: Chris Holder 13, Darcy Ward 11+1, Jason Doyle 9+2, Davey Watt 7+1, Renat Gafurov 6+1, Dennia Andersson 2+1, Mateusz Szczpaniak 0.
BIRMINGHAM: Krzysztof Kasprzak 11, Ulrich Ostergaard 7+2, Danny King 7, Ben Barker 6+1, Daniel Nermark 6, Claus Vissing 4+3, Ales Dryml 1.
