SKIPPER Jason Lyons surged to his second maximum in four days as the BRC Roofing Brummies rounded off their home Premier League programme with an emphatic win over Newport.

Birmingham's victory coupled with another home defeat for King's Lynn means only a series of freak results can now deprive the Brummies of a place in the end-of-season promotion play-offs.

Lyons was in impeccable form at the head of another solid Brummies showing, and after having to work hard to see off Craig Watson on the last bend of Heat 1, the Birmingham captain was largely untroubled.

Aaron Summers was also unbeaten until the last race with Richard Sweetman only dropping points with a Heat 13 fall, whilst recent signing Klaus Jakobsen impressed once more.

But probably the biggest cheer of the night was for reserve Kyle Newman, who secured a brilliant 5-1 with Sweetman in Heat 11 over the experienced Newport pairing of Watson and Leigh Lanham, with Lanham racing for double points.

BIRMINGHAM: Jason Lyons 14+1, Aaron Summers 11+2, Klaus Jakobsen 9+1, Justin Sedgmen 8+1, Richard Sweetman 8+1, Steve Johnston 7+1, Kyle Newman 4+1.

NEWPORT: Kyle Legault 9, Leigh Lanham 5+2, Craig Watson 5, Alex Davies 4+2, Robin Aspegren 4+1, Todd Kurtz 2, Richard Franklin 0.
