SCUNTHORPE 41 BRUMMIES 49

Friday April 09, 2010
BIRMINGHAM continued their impressive start to the season with a 49-41 Premier Trophy victory at Scunthorpe on Friday evening.

It was the Brummies second away success in as many days following their win on Thursday at Redcar.

Justin Sedgmen again showed superb form from the reserve berth with a 15+1 tally with Richard Sweetman 10 and Chris Kerr 8+1 also playing their part in a performance that puts the Perry Barr side top of Midland section.

Unfortunately the meeting was marred by a nasty-looking crash involving Scunthorpe's David Howe in the opening race and although he took no further part in the meeting, he was later released from hospital having suffered no lasting damage.

The Brummies picked up a 5-1 in heat 1 to edge ahead and despite being pegged back in heat 5, they again took the lead with a 4-2 in heat 8 and were never seriously troubled thereafter.

They then built up a 43-35 advantage with two races remaining and all the Trophy points were finally secured when Sweetman and Sedgmen stormed to a 5-1 in the penultimate race.
