BIRMINGHAM enjoyed the perfect preparation for this weekend's critical Northern tour as they swept Rye House aside 58-36 at Perry Barr.

The BRC Roofing Brummies had three maximum men with immaculate skipper Jason Lyons, star guest Mark Lemon and recent signing Rusty Harrison all unbeaten.

Despite the margin of victory, there was some of the best racing of the season on a superbly-prepared track, and another big crowd roared their approval at a number of spectacular passing moves.

Lyons brought the house down with a stunning effort in Heat 7 having missed the gate but then reeling in first Linus Sundstrom and then Chris Neath - who was racing for double points - and taking victory on the line.

The visitors lost Joe Haines with bruising to his back after a heavy crash on the fourth bend in Heat 5, although earlier in that race Ludivig Lindgren had used the inside to go from fourth to second in fine style.

Lemon and Harrison picked up 5-1s in each of their outings together as the Brummies eased clear, and as several of the Rockets struggled their only real success came with a 5-1 in Heat 14 when Jay Herne was just edged out by the best two visitors, Neath and veteran Andrew Silver.

But Lyons and Lemon hit straight back in the last race to repeat their maximum points of Heat 13 - and that meant home riders took the flag in 12 of the 15 races.

BIRMINGHAM 58: Mark Lemon 14+1, Jason Lyons 14+1, Rusty Harrison 9+3, Ludvig Lindgren 9+1, Richard Sweetman 5+1, Lee Smart 5, Jay Herne 2.
RYE HOUSE 36: Andrew Silver 10+1, Chris Neath 10, Linus Sundstrom 6+1, Luke Bowen 4, Robert Mear 3, Tommy Allen 2+1, Joe Haines 1.
