BIRMINGHAM collected major silverware with a brilliant victory in the Premier League Pairs showpiece event at Somerset.

Skipper Jason Lyons and popular Pole Tomasz Piszcz were the BRC Roofing Brummies' heroes as they overcame old foes King's Lynn and hosts Somerset in the dramatic closing stages.

Brummies struggled for points in the first half of the meeting, Piszcz being without a point in his first two rides, but both riders changed bikes and the move worked wonders.

Maximum 7-2 advantages in their last two rides saw them edge out Edinburgh for a top two place in their group and set up a semi-final clash with King's Lynn.

And after a hard-fought first lap, the Stars' challenge self-destructed as Darcy Ward was disqualified for bringing Lyons down, which left the Brummies duo just needing to finish in the re-run.

Somerset, meanwhile, overcame Workington in the other semi-final, leaving Lyons and Piszcz facing Steve Johnston and Emil Kramer in the Final.

The home duo were still favourites, but Piszcz conjured a lightning start and was joined at the front in thrilling style by Lyons around the first and second bends.

Johnston fought hard and eventually came by Piszcz to split the pairing, but with Kramer at the back it was nowhere near enough for the home side and the Brummies could start their celebrations.
