BIRMINGHAM suffered a 53-39 Premier Trophy defeat at home to a powerful King's Lynn side on Sunday.

The meeting was heavily delayed after the Stars' Christian Henry suffered a shoulder injury in a first-bend spill in Heat 3, and the Brummies managed to keep in touch despite the expected high scoring from the visitors' sensational teenage reserve Darcy Ward.

With ex-Brummie Emiliano Sanchez impressing greatly, and Tomas Topinka strong at the top of their order, the visitors secured back-to-back 5-1s in Heats 7 and 8 to establish control.

Ward and Chris Schramm romped to a 5-1 in Heat 14 to secure maximum points for the visitors before a dramatic Heat 15 which saw Ksiezak sent back 15 metres for moving at the start, and Sanchez replacing Topinka after Tomas Topinka also hurt his shoulder in a spectacular pile-up.

Piszcz won the re-run but just six heat wins on their own track will be another statistic which concerns BRC Roofing Brummies boss Graham Drury as he ponders his options for team changes.

BIRMINGHAM: Robert Ksiezak 11+1, Tomasz Piszcz 11, Jason Lyons 6, Richard Sweetman 5+1, Ludvig Lindgren 4, Daniel Halsey 2, Ben Taylor 0.
KING'S LYNN: Darcy Ward 16+2, Emiliano Sanchez 12+2, Tomas Topinka 11, Chris Schramm 9+2, Jan Graversen 3+1, Darren Mallett 2, Christian Henry 0, Kozza Smith r/r.
