BIRMINGHAM gave a battling display but went down 48-45 at Stoke in their latest Premier Trophy clash on Saturday night.

The Perry Barr side failed to recover from a 5-1 reversal in the second race with Stoke reserves Jesper Kristiansen and Klaus Jacobsen in fine form.

Skipper Jason Lyons was once again Birmingham’s top man with 15+1 from his five rides – and that included a maximum six-point return as a tactical ride in Heat 11 when he joined Richard Sweetman for a brilliant 8-1.

And when Lyons teamed up with Tomasz Piszcz for a vital 5-1 in Heat 13 it gave the BRC Roofing Brummies hope of claiming a consolation point.

They managed to pull it off when Piszcz won the last race in impressive style with Lyons third – a result which denied him his maximum.

The result was much improved on last month when Birmingham were thumped at Loomer Road in the M6 Trophy.

BIRMINGHAM: Jason Lyons 15+1, Tomasz Piszcz 11, Robert Ksiezak 6, Ludvig Lindgren 5, Richard Sweetman 4+1, Marek Mroz 3+1, Ben Taylor 1.
STOKE: Jason Bunyan 12, Klaus Jakobsen 9+1, Tom P Madsen 8+3, Lee Complin 8, Jesper Kristiansen 7+1, Phil Morris 2, Glen Phillips 2.
