INJURY-HIT Birmingham suffered a 54-36 Premier Trophy defeat at Rye House - despite a superb performance from popular Welshman Phil Morris (pictured).

Morris dropped just one point in his opening four rides to keep the Brummies flag flying against the reigning league champions.

But right from the moment Adam Roynon fell in his opening ride when deputising for the injured Kyle Legault, the meeting went against the brave Perry Barr side.

Roynon, on his first return to Hoddesdon since leaving the Rockets during the winter, was also used as a tactical ride for double-points late on but failed to make an impression as he conceded a 5-1 behind Rockets duo Tommy Allen and Danny Betson.

Legault's rides, covered by Roynon, skipper Jason Lyons, Morris and Jack Hargreaved, only returned four-points - and that's at least half what the Canadian would have expected to score.

Rain forced a delay after the ninth race, but the meeting was able to continue and the home side piled on the points in the closing races.

RYE HOUSE 54: Tai Woffinden 14+1, Tommy Allen 11+2, Danny Betson 10+1, Stefan Ekberg 6+1, Chris Neath 5+1, Rob Mere 4+3, Luke Bowen 4+1.
BIRMINGHAM 36: Phil Morris 13, Adam Roynon 7+1, Jack Hargreaves 7+1, Jason Lyons 6+1. Jack Roberts 2+1, Lee Smart 1, Kyle Legault R/R.

*BIRMINGHAM are unchanged for Sunday's trip to Mildenhall, also in the Premier Trophy, which starts at 4.30pm. Live updates will be available on SpeedwayCall 09068 664 660 - calls 60p/min.
