BIRMINGHAM'S Speedway stars opened their Premier Trophy campaign in style with a thumping 60-33 win over Mildenhall at Perry Barr.

Conditions were tricky after several downpours during the day, but both sets of riders got on with the task in hand and the BRC Roofing Brummies were clearly the better side.

Mildenhall were hardly helped by the continued absence of German international Robbie Kessler and they were forced to share his programmed rides around under the rider-replacement facility.

But Birmingham would have won anyway, such was their superior all-round strength and each member of the team managed to win a race.

Former Mildenhall man Kyle Legault saw his hopes of a maximum on his Brummies debut dashed late on when he was excluded for crashing and causing the stoppage of Heat 13.

Kaj Laukkanen, a former Grand Prix star, gave Mildenhall some respite from the Birmingham onslaught two races earlier when he won a tactical ride for double-points - but in reality it was always likely to be a damage limitation exercise.

Brummies skipper Jason Lyons completed his full house with a win alongside Legault in Heat 15 to rub salt into Mildenhall's wounds.

BIRMINGHAM: Jason Lyons 14+1, Kyle Legault 10+2, Phil Morris 9+1, Jack Hargreaves 8+1, Adam Roynon 7+2, Lee Smart 7+2, James Birkinshaw 5.
MILDENHALL: Kaj Laukkanen 13, Jamie Smith 6+1, Casper Wortmann 6+1, Jan Gravesen 4, Mark Baseby 2, James Cockle 1, Rob Smith 1.
