PREVIEW: BRUMMIES v SCUNTHORPE

Tuesday May 02, 2023
BIRMINGHAM go head-to-head with Scunthorpe at Perry Barr for the second time in the space of a fortnight on Wednesday (May 3, 7.30).

The two sides met in the BSN Series Northern Group last month "“ where it was the Scorpions who ran out 49-41 winners in the Second City.

This time they meet in the Championship Knockout Cup though with the Curtis Sport Brummies targeting their first win of the year to build some form of lead in their Quarter-Final tie ahead of the decider at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (May 5, 7.30).

It's been a tricky start to the season for Birmingham who have lost three out of three in all competitions so far.

And while team boss Laurence Rogers believes some of his riders are beginning to find their feet, he knows the importance of an all-round improved team performance in front of their home supporters on Wednesday.

"There have been glimpses from all of the boys at some point so far," Rogers said.

"Some of them still need a bit more bike time, but with those boys we're on about, we're already seeing them taking steps in the right direction.

"Of course we wanted to do much better in those BSN Series matches but we now have to look at those as some important track time for the lads as a team.

"The league fixtures are just around the corner now and we need to have things right by the time they come around.

"We need a heck of a big performance against Scunthorpe; we need the lads to all pull together, score some big points and give it everything we can to get our season up and running."

With James Wright still out of action with a shoulder injury, Brummies again call on former favourite Paco Castagna who scored double figures against Scunthorpe in the season opener.

It's FREE admission for all children aged 11 and under at Perry Barr in 2023 while Juniors aged 12-16 will be admitted for just £3.

Season Tickets are valid for the fixture as are Advanced Five tickets.
