STEFAN Nielsen will return to the scene of his season ending horror crash when he lines up for Birmingham next season.

Nielsen, who was with Poole, crashed out of the Perry Barr clash on September 1 and suffered multiple injuries which ruled him out of the play-offs with the Pirates who went on to take the title.

Now he will be in Brummies colours as their fourth signing hot on the heels of James Shanes, Ashley Morris and Josh Auty who all return to the club.

Said Nielsen: “I scored zero points from less than one lap on my one and only visit to the Birmingham track this year.

“Having said that, it’s not the first time I’ve done this over the years, so it’s nothing that I’m worried about. I have had some good results around Birmingham in the past and I’m looking forward to more of them to come in 2022.”

Nielsen is delighted to see the club saved by a new consortium following the departure of outing owners Peter and David Mason after a nightmare 2021 season.

“It feels really good to be with Birmingham,” he said. “They are a great club and now that they have been saved and have new owners, it’s all very exciting and everyone is in a positive frame of mind and want to put on a good show for the fans.

“I’m really looking forward to putting on the Brummies race jacket and giving it my all for the club.

“I know a few of the other lads have already been revealed and it’s shaping up nicely.”

As for his recovery from the injuries, Nielsen insists he’s on track to be fit and raring to go by the spring.

He said: “In terms of where I am now, the ribs are perfectly fine but the broken collarbone is still giving me a little bit of grief here and there.

“It’s nothing that’s going to put me off or slow me down when it comes to getting back on that bike again in the new season, I’ll be ready.”
