POPULAR Yorkshireman Josh Auty is on his way back to Birmingham Brummies.

Auty, who reached the Elite League Grand Final with the club in 2013, becomes the third signing for the new season which starts next spring.

And he says it’s good to be back after enjoying his previous spell at Perry Barr.

“I really enjoyed my time at Birmingham,” he said. “So when the opportunity came along I was pleased to agree to go back there for 2022.

“It’s an exciting time for the club with the new owners establishing themselves and I’m pleased to be a part of it.

“I congratulate them on saving the club because it’s a good track with good facilities and the supporters really make you welcome and back you all the way. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone.”

Team boss Laurence Rogers is equally pleased to get his man and he becomes the third signing for 2022 with Ashley Morris and James Shanes already confirmed.

He said: “Josh has been very keen to join Birmingham and we’re equally has pleased to have him on board.

“He’s coming back to a track he knows, he enjoyed his time with the Brummies previously and after a testing couple of years he’s determined to have a really good season in 2022.

“He really does seem to have his mojo back and he’ll be a key heat-leader for us.

“Josh is a very solid rider at this level, he’s proven that on plenty of occasions and he’s another rider I expect to increase his starting average.”

Meanwhile the Brummies have been included in the Southern group of the new summer tournament launched for 2022 where they’ll face Oxford, Plymouth and Poole home and away.

And in the Knockout Cup they face a tough first round draw against Leicester with the winners facing Scunthorpe in the quarter-finals.
