BIRMINGHAM have completed their 2020 line-up with the signing of former Grand Prix racer Tomas H Jonasson.

The Swede, who turns 31 on Wednesday, joins Chris Harris, Jason Garrity, Ashley Morris, James Shanes, Paco Castagna and Jack Thomas on the Brummies team-sheet for next year’s Championship campaign.

Jonasson, a former Swedish international, boasts a whole host of experience and raced for Berwick in the closing months of 2019.

But he’s now agreed to join Birmingham on a 6.96 average - something team boss Laurence Rogers feels is a steal.

“When we were putting this year’s team together we looked at riders who we feel are capable of improving their starting average,” he said.

“Tomas can certainly do just that and at Championship level especially there is no reason whatsoever why he can’t become a genuine heat-leader.

“We saw glimpses as well of how entertaining he can be at Perry Barr in our last meeting of the season and he’ll fit in well with the group of lads we’ve got.

“We’re really, really pleased with the team we’ve put together; they’re certainly going to put on a show week in week out and we’re confident we can surprise a few people in 2020.”

Season Ticket details are currently being discussed and will be confirmed once Newcastle’s ongoing situation has been resolved.
