SHOWMAN Paco Castagna is the latest rider to seal a Birmingham return.

The Italian proved an instant hit at Perry Barr in 2019 and has now been confirmed as the Brummies’ fifth signing for next year.

Castagna is thrilled to be heading back to the second city side after striking up a strong connection with all involved at the club.

“It feels so good to be back in the Birmingham team,” Castagna said.

“I loved my first year there in 2019 and there is such a good feeling around the place with the supporters and everybody.

“The team is looking good and I think we’re going to be getting a lot more positive results next season.

“ I’m going to be working as hard as I can to be in the best possible shape for 2020 and I’m pretty pumped to see where next year takes me.”

Meanwhile team boss Laurence Rogers has revealed Castagna is expected to start at reserve – a position where he racked up the points this year.

“He was stunning whilst down at reserve and his confidence grew and grew and grew,” Rogers said.

“To have him back starting at reserve though is a real bonus for the team and with a not so busy schedule again, he will be key for us in the opening weeks of the season especially.

“Paco is a real showman and he quickly turned into a firm fans’ favourite this year so I’m sure they will again be happy with our latest signing!”

Castagna joins Jason Garrity, Ashley Morris and James Shanes on the list of returning riders from 2019 with triple British Champion Chris Harris, who also rode for the club back in 2013, the other confirmed rider.

It means Birmingham now have two team spots left to fill.
