BIRMINGHAM have swooped to bring triple British Champion Chris Harris back to Perry Barr in 2020.

‘Bomber’ was a part of the 2013 Brummies side that topped the Elite League standings – only to miss out to Poole in the Grand Final.

The former Grand Prix regular may turn 37 next month, but his talent and ability at Championship level is undoubted.

He enjoyed a fine 2019 campaign helping Somerset to the play-offs, averaging over 10-points per meeting along the way.

And team boss Laurence Rogers has described the signing of Harris as a major coup for the Brummies.

“Bomber is a legend in British Speedway and he has a stunning CV,” Rogers said.

“He might not be a youngster anymore but he’s still a first class rider.

“He scored 12-points at Perry Barr when Somerset visited in July and he’s been a reliable big hitter for the Rebels all year.

“This is a major signing for Birmingham and by announcing Bomber and Jason (Garrity) before the AGM has even taken place shows supporters we mean business in 2020.

“They’re not only very capable riders at this level, but they’re also great entertainers who will put on a show for our supporters.”

Meanwhile Harris is relishing another stint with the Brummies.

“I’m looking forward to being able to ride the Birmingham track week in, week out again because I really do enjoy it there,” Harris said.

“I know I didn’t have the best season personally in 2013 but that only makes me even more determined to show the people of Birmingham I can still do a job for them.

“I’m confident I can go back there and score some big points and if the rules go how they expect and they’re able to sign the riders they want to then I think it’s going to be a very exciting season for the club.”
