BIRMINGHAM have named Danish prospect Tobias Thomsen as their fifth rider for 2019.

The 24-year-old will make his British League debut next season and becomes the second rider to sign as a full club asset.

Thomsen reckons riding in Britain will benefit his career and is keen to entertain supporters.

“To race for a team in the UK has been a wish of mine for the past four years,” Thomsen said.

“So to finally get signed for 2019 is a dream come true.

“I’ve raced in the UK a few times at tracks such as Redcar, Edinburgh, Peterborough and Berwick and in the one individual meeting I did at Berwick, I reached the Final and won Rider of the Night for my effort.

“That’s one thing I always give as well - plenty of effort and I want to give the fans some real good racing.

“I want to make me a name to remember - I know that will be hard in my first full year in the UK but I love a challenge.

“I want to become an even better rider and I think finally getting a team in England will help me do that.

“All I really know about Birmingham is that it is the second largest city in England and that their stadium and track is quite new.

“But the management seem really committed and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at the club for the first time.”

Meanwhile team boss Laurence Rogers said: “Tobias is a real prospect who’s slipped under everyone else’s radar a little.

“He comes in on a 5.00 average and we’re hopeful he can settle in quite quickly and start chipping in with some decent points for the team.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about Tobias, he’s so up for this challenge and Ulrich (Ostergaard) has given his approval as well.

“It’s important to have another full asset on board as well and we really want everyone to make him feel instantly at home when he comes to Birmingham for the first time next March.”
