BIRMINGHAM begin a crucial weekend with a trip to Plymouth on Friday (7.15).

The Edwards Plumbing Brummies also have away meetings against runaway league leaders Mildenhall (Saturday, 7.30) and Coventry (Sunday 1pm) in an important few days as they hope to get their play-off bid back on track.

The Perry Barr side have lost their last three fixtures by narrow margins and realistically need at least one win this weekend.

Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: “The loss at Stoke last Saturday has put a bit more pressure on these meetings but we have to remain positive and confident that we can still do enough to get into that top four.”

The Brummies will have just three of their regular line-up for Friday’s meeting at the St. Boniface Arena with James Shanes on Championship duty for Sheffield, Danyon Hume and Callum Walker sidelined through injury and Sheldon Davies on a pre-booked holiday.

Eastbourne duo Tom Brennan and Ethan Spiller stand-in as does youngster Saul Bulley at reserve.

Said Rogers: “Myself and David (Mason – co-promoter) have been working overtime to get guests in this weekend and we’re glad to be able to give Tom Brennan another opportunity because he did really well for us earlier in the season.

“Ethan is a capable rider to have at No.2 and Saul is someone I worked with at Plymouth last year and his development league scores seem to have been slipping under the radar.

“So hopefully everyone can chip in with some points and get the weekend off to a positive start.”
