BIRMINGHAM boss Laurence Rogers believes he’s booked the best two guests possible for Sunday’s meeting against Coventry (3pm).

Isle of Wight’s Ben Morley and Eastbourne’s Tom Brennan stand-in for Leon Flint (injured) and James Shanes (grasstrack commitments) for the fixture at Leicester’s Paul Chapman and Sons Arena.

The injury hit Edwards Plumbing Brummies are without a win in their last five fixtures in all competitions.

And while Rogers acknowledges Coventry’s strength in depth, he also sees no reason why his guests can’t make vital contributions as they aim to move into the league’s top four.

“Obviously it’s a bit of a blow being without James but it’s the British Grasstrack Masters and it’s an Auto-Cycle Union meeting which he has to do to retain his license,” Rogers explained.

“But it’s enabled us to give Tom Brennan another guest booking and we’re glad about that because it’s sort of a reward for how he rode for us in the National Trophy meeting against Cradley.

“He scored nine points for us on that occasion and he has done well when he’s raced against Coventry away for Eastbourne this year.

“He’s also involved in the European Under-19 Final this weekend (Saturday) and that shows how talented the youngster is.

“He’s getting a flight straight back from Finland to come and ride for us and that highlights his dedication and love for the sport.

“As for Ben Morley, he may only be 24, but he has a lot of National League experience, He’s a top quality, reliable racer at this level and I’m confident he’ll do a good job for us.

“We’re slowly but surely getting there as a team.

“It hasn’t been easy in recent times but we’ve had two draws on the spin now and we’re heading back in the right direction.

“Coventry have got a pretty solid 1-7 but the team we’ve got for this fixture are more than capable of going there and getting something from the meeting.”

COVENTRY: Connor Mountain, Jamie Halder, Danny Phillips, Luke Ruddick, Jon Armstrong, Luke Harris, Ryan MacDonald.
