BRUMMIES skipper Jason Lyons went agonisingly close to winning the Premier League Riders' Championship at Swindon on Sunday night - but had to settle for the silver medal.

The Brilliant Australian, who has been an inspirational figure for the Mercom Water Products-backed side this season, went straight through to the final with a 13-point haul.

But he was beaten in the final by Workington's James Wright, who was a worthy winner of this prestigious event.

The Cumbrian ace was top scorer in the qualifying heats with 14 and got the edge over his rivals in the final to win his first PLRC crown.

Final: Wright, Lyons, Rempala, Nermark
