BIRMINGHAM host defending Champions and current National League league leaders Belle Vue in a mouth-watering head-to-head at Perry Barr on Wednesday (7.30).

The Edwards Plumbing Brummies lost their first meeting of the season in the Knockout Cup at Mildenhall on Sunday, but are aiming to bounce back by extending their winning streak in the league.

Belle Vue pose a threat though, with former Brummies title winners Tom Perry and Jack Smith the spearhead duo for the visitors.

And with in-form talented youngsters Kyle Bickley and Joe Lawlor also included, Birmingham co-promoter David Mason is anticipating a tight tussle.

“I think it’s going to be a tough one on Wednesday and it should be a real entertaining fixture for the supporters,” Mason said.

“Belle Vue have got a solid top five in particular and the Birmingham fans won’t need reminding what both Tom and Jack can do at Perry Barr.

“So our top three and Leon (Flint) at reserve are going to have to carry on the superb run of form they’ve been on.

“And we also need the rest of the team to keep plugging away to chip in with some points as well and I believe they can do just that.

“I’m really looking forward to Wednesday though. I’m expecting a close contest, some really exciting racing and hopefully it all ends in another home win to send our supporters home happy again.”

While not in a racing capacity, injured skipper Mitchell Davey returns to Perry Barr for the first time since his horror crash in May.

The 28-year-old will be available for autographs and pictures between 6.15 and 7pm.

And with World Cup fever sweeping the nation, junior supporters will be able to take part in a special penalty shootout as part of the interval entertainment on the centre green.

The main event will be followed by Midland Development League action between the Birmingham Ductair Electrics Bulls and Belle Vue Colts.

Admission is £13 adults, £12 concessions, £3 juniors (12-16) while kids 11 and under go FREE.
