BIRMINGHAM stormed to a 57-33 National Trophy victory at Stoke courtesy of a late flurry of maximums.

While the Edwards Plumbing Brummies never trailed in the fixture, they rounded off the night with five successive 5-1s to secure all four points on offer.

Club captain Mitchell Davey remains unbeaten in Birmingham colours after inflicting a full five ride maximum on his ex-employers, while vice skipper Tom Bacon settled for a paid maximum, tucking in behind Davey in Heats 13 and 15 after winning his opening three.

But arguably the performance of the night came from 15-year-old Leon Flint who in his first ever competitive fixture, went unbeaten by an opponent on a simply wonderful night for the youngster.

Guest Jordan Jenkins contributed four solid second places while Callum Walker left Loomer Road on a high after taking the chequered flag in Heat 14.

Layne Cupitt also finished on a positive note with a paid win in Heat 11 while inexperienced reserve Arran Butcher progressed in each of his three rides.

Team Manager Laurence Rogers was delighted with what he described as a classy performance.

"This really is a tremendous way to get our National Trophy quest started," he said.

"Every single one of them from 1-7 can be proud of themselves tonight because they can all take some positives away with them.

"We've had three unbeaten riders which is a marvellous achievement, particularly for Leon who probably scored more points than his dad Gary did in his entire Stoke career!

"It really was a great team performance though and I'm glad we did something like that for the supporters.

"They travelled in impressive numbers to cheer the boys on tonight and that's why we went over to them at the end to thank them for their support."

The Brummies are back in action this Wednesday when they host Kent in the firsts leg of the belated Easter Cup Challenge (7.30).
