BIRMINGHAM kickstart their National Trophy campaign on Saturday when they head to Midland rivals Stoke (7pm).

The Edwards Plumbing Brummies have only raced one meeting so far this season – a 52-37 challenge victory over Coventry.

But Saturday’s trip to Loomer Road gives the Perry Barr side a chance to get their first competitive fixture completed at the start of an exciting season.

Fans’ favourite Danyon Hume will be missing the trip due to Championship commitments with Ipswich. So team manager Laurence Rogers has booked talented teenager Jordan Jenkins from Mildenhall as a guest.

Club captain Mitchell Davey is looking forward to going up against his former club and says the Brummies can use this meeting to build some momentum as a team.

“There have been so many postponed meetings this year that nobody has really had chance to get into the flow yet,” Davey said.

“But we’ve got a few meetings coming up over the next week or two now so it would be good to get another win.

“I do kind of enjoy riding against my old clubs but I have to say, I had an enjoyable season at Stoke.

“I did my best for them and I got on pretty well with everyone there – but I’m a Birmingham rider now and I’ve got a job to do for them.”

STOKE: Max Clegg, Paul Burnett, Tony Atkin, Adam Extance, Rob Shuttleworth, Joe Alcock, William O’Keefe.

BIRMINGHAM: Tom Bacon, Layne Cupitt, Jordan Jenkins, Callum Walker, Mitchell Davey, Arran Butcher, Leon Flint.
