BIRMINGHAM will no longer host the British Under-21 Final.

The prestigious individual event was set to take place at Perry Barr on an unconfirmed date in April.

But the British Speedway Promoters’ Association have now pulled the fixture from the Midlands venue.

Edwards Plumbing Brummies co-promoter David Mason explained: “During the winter, we were asked if we’d like to have the British Under-21 Final at Perry Barr.

“We jumped at the chance because it would have been a big feather in our cap in our first season as Birmingham’s promoters.

“They then told us it had to be run on a night where there are no other fixture clashes.

“So we looked into a couple of Tuesday dates and were waiting for a few things to come back regarding our racenight planning permission.

“We identified a couple of Thursdays that would have been a lot easier – but because it could have potentially ruled one or two riders out of their Championship meetings, we were told that was a no go.

“It is very disappointing because we are confident we’d have got a good crowd in with the likes of Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley on display, but it looks like their minds have been made up unfortunately.”

The club will make no further comment on this matter.
