AN exciting new era for Birmingham Speedway gets underway on Wednesday when they host Midland rivals Coventry at Perry Barr (7.30).

It’s the first meeting for the Edwards Plumbing Brummies under the ownership of Peter and David Mason – who are hoping for a big crowd after applying special admission offers for the season opener.

Under-16s, accompanied by a paying adult, will be admitted free of charge, with adult tickets reduced to just £10 for the mouth-watering clash.

In a meeting sponsored by City Gearboxes (Coventry) LTD, the Brummies track four new faces in Callum Walker, Arran Butcher, skipper Mitchell Davey and British 250cc Youth Champion Leon Flint.

Tom Bacon and Layne Cupitt return for another season at Perry Barr while fans’ favourite Danyon Hume makes his highly anticipated comeback almost a year after suffering a broken arm.

Co-promoter David Mason said: “We really cannot wait for Wednesday night to come around now.

“It’s been a long time coming but our winter has also flown by and it’s hard to think that this is going to be our first meeting in charge of the club.

“John Priest and Arthur Browning have done a terrific job on the track in recent weeks and we’re in for some brilliant racing on Wednesday.

“We’ve got a team full of potential, and one which is full of true entertainers as well.

“Coventry will provide a good opening challenge for us – and it’s going to be a cracking meeting to get us up and running.

“We’ve got some second half racing as well and a few other new things to look forward to on Wednesday.

“Hopefully with the special admission offer, there will be a lot of new faces on the terraces as well as some old faces who haven’t been for a long time as well.

“Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your colleagues and bring them along on Wednesday and show them what the thrills and spills of speedway are all about!”

Car parking is available on the stadium grounds, while additional parking spaces can also be found on the nearby One Stop Shopping Centre.

A reminder that season tickets are NOT valid for Wednesday’s meeting and the club’s new-look raceday programme will be available for £3 from the track.
