BIRMINGHAM have released their fixtures for the 2018 season – and will predominantly stick to their Wednesday race night at Perry Barr.

New owners David and Peter Mason had explored the option of switching to the occasional Tuesday, but after listening to feedback from supporters, they will stick to tradition for the forthcoming campaign.

The Brummies open their home programme with consecutive challenges against Coventry and Kent before getting their National Trophy fixtures underway against Stoke on Wednesday, April 11.

They then host Mildenhall in the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie on Wednesday, May 9 and will have to wait until Wednesday, May 23 against the Isle of Wight for their first National League meeting.

Only one Birmingham home meeting will be staged on an alternative racenight when Stoke visit Perry Barr on Thursday, August 9.

Meanwhile, the second city will play host to one of the most prestigious events on the calendar, the British Under-21 Final, where a date of Tuesday, April 17 has been provisionally agreed, subject to confirmation.

Supporters will have the chance to see their new-look side for the first time at the club’s Press and Practice day which has now been set for Wednesday, March 21.

Team Manager Laurence Rogers said: “David and Peter strongly considered a couple of Tuesday racenights to try and ensure we had a full team as often as we could.

“But they listened to supporters and looked at a few other logistics as well and while it could still happen at some point in the future, between all of us we decided to stick to Wednesday’s for now as much as we could.

“It means there’ll be the odd fixture here or there where we may be without Mitchell Davey due to Premiership commitments with Swindon.

“But we spent hours compiling the fixtures to try and ensure we have a full 1-7 of our own as often as we possibly could with the dates that were available to us.

“We’ve decided to open with two challenge fixtures against two of the stronger looking teams in the league against Coventry and Kent.

“As a management team we felt that not only will these be four great meetings to open our season with, but they will also be really beneficial for the riders to get stuck into the season ahead of our first competitive fixture in mid-April.

“With the Birmingham Bulls riding in the Midland Development League too, we’ve been able to list some of their fixtures too.

“We’ve also now confirmed that Press and Practice will be held on Wednesday, March 21, and while we hope to announce full details later this week, we will definitely still be having our meet the riders event on that same night as usual.”
