FANS’ favourite Liam Carr is back with Birmingham after new owner David Mason added him to his backroom team.

The 21-year-old retired from racing at the end of last season, but will now be a part of the new-look management.

He will mainly be looking after the Birmingham Bulls, who have now officially been accepted into the Midland Development League, but will also have some input to the Brummies’ National League side too.

The news will please the Perry Barr faithful who took Carr to their hearts during his spell with the club last year and Mason is delighted to have the popular Northumbrian back in some capacity.

Said Mason: “Myself and Liam were talking on the ‘phone one day and I really wanted him to be a part of my first year at Birmingham.

“He may have called it quits on his racing days, for now at least, but he does really love his speedway and I could tell he didn’t want to walk away from it completely.

“So we’ve come to an agreement that he will help run the Bulls’ home meetings at Perry Barr when his other work and commitments allow.

“I’d also like him to be around the pits at any home or away National League fixture too because he’s great for team spirit and he doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty too.

“He’s adamant he’s staying away from racing, but I’ve left him an open invitation and told him that he can bring a bike down with him whenever he fancies a skid.

“If that reignites his love for the sport and he figures out how much he’s missing it then great, if not then at least he’s still a part of our team for 2018.

“I’m just glad to have him involved in some way and I’m sure this will go down well with our supporters too.”
