BIRMINGHAM's racenights at Perry Barr could be extended next season - after the club applied to enter the Midland Development League.

If accepted at the MDL AGM next month, supporters could be treated to a total of 21 races on occasions, with six extra heats following the main league fixture.

The MDL has been a strong starting point for riders since its inception with an impressive list of those who have progressed to higher leagues.

The club did run some junior matches several years ago with a Birmingham Bulls side - and that would be the name of the new side that would compete in the MDL next season if the application is approved.

New co-promoter David Mason said: "It is the way forward for sure.

"Being able to bring on youngsters in this way will benefit the club long term.

"We aim to run second halves after most meetings either as MDL fixtures or challenges plus normal second halves featuring the Bulls squad along with some Youth 500 riders and 125/150cc and 250cc races .

"This also gives our supporters an extra six races at each meeting at no cost as well as allowing us to look at emerging talent and young riders."
