BIRMINGHAM star Liam Carr announced his decision to quit speedway at the club's End of Season Presentation on Saturday.

The 21-year-old broke the news after picking up three awards as he told fans "that's me done."

Carr was the Surestop Brummies' top points scorer in 2017 and fast became a firm favourite with the fans.

Said Carr: "I'd made my mind up a few months ago now.

"It's been a blast during my time at Birmingham but that's me done now and at least I'm going out on a personal high.

"I'd just like to thank all of the supporters and the management for everything this year and I wish them all the best for the future."

Carr won the prestigious Graham Warren Trophy as he came out on top in a vote held by a 14 person select committee.

He was also voted the Birmingham Speedway Supporters' Club Rider of the Year as well as the Ductair Electrics Ltd Rider of the Year for bagging the most rider of the night nominations at Perry Barr throughout 2017.
