BIRMINGHAM favourites Liam Carr and Tom Bacon are gunning for glory in the National League Riders’ Championship at Leicester on Sunday (3pm).

Bacon received a wildcard nomination from the league committee while Carr, who was initially frustrated at being overlooked for the prestigious event, has received a call-up in place of injured skipper Jack Parkinson-Blackburn.

Surestop Brummies boss Graham Drury is backing his duo to do well despite it being a star studded line up with a mixture of talented youngsters and experienced third tier campaigners.

Said Drury: “Both Tom and Liam have really good seasons with Birmingham and it would be nice to see them earn an individual honour.

“They know it won’t be easy though because it’s a very competitive field and it’s also a fiercely fought event.

“But they’ve shown they’re capable of beating these sorts of riders all season long so if they’re at their best on Sunday, then why shouldn’t they be able to push for the title?

“They’re both very popular lads at Perry Barr and with Leicester not being very far away at all, I’m sure they’ll be supported in decent numbers by our fans.”
