BIRMINGHAM were crowned 2016 Travel Plus National League Champions on an unforgettable night at Perry Barr.

The Surestop Brummies dominated the second leg of the Grand Final as they ran-out 57-33 winners over Eastbourne.

It sealed a 94-83 aggregate victory as the Perry Barr outfit successfully overturned a 13 point first leg deficit.

The Brummies knew that getting off to a strong start was vital and two 5-1s and two 4-2s in the opening four races was just what the doctor ordered.

Many thought heat six had swung the momentum back in Eastbourne's favour after guest No.1 Mitchell Davey came down while on another 5-1.

However, heat seven provided yet another twist in an enthralling tie.

After Eastbourne guest Nathan Stoneman was disqualified, Eagles skipper Jake Knight was forced to start 15 meters back after breaking the tapes leaving the Brummies pairing of Tom Perry and Jack Smith to capitalise on their advantage.

Birmingham continued to kick on in style and wrapped up back-to-back third tier titles with a 5-1 courtesy of Jack Parkinson-Blackburn and Tom Bacon in heat 14.

Brummies team boss Graham Drury said: "What an absolutely stunning performance - our lads were incredible!

"They never once doubted their capabilities and they were fired up right from the off.

"Walking around the pits before the start, I have never seen so much determination on a set of riders faces like I saw with our boys tonight.

"We knew if we could get off to a good start then that would give us a massive boost. For our guest Mitchell Davey to go out and beat a track specialist like Adam Ellis in the opening race was huge and I think that set the tone for the rest of the meeting.

"Each and every single rider played their part once more and thank goodness they pulled it off because they fully deserved that official Champions status.

"Those lads have enjoyed a remarkable year and have been by far the best team in the league.

"Our supporters were absolutely superb tonight; they turned out in huge numbers, they made so much noise and that really helped the lads.

"This is another proud moment for Birmingham Brummies Speedway and we'll certainly enjoy the celebrations at our End of Season Awards Night a week on Saturday!"

The Brummies still have one meeting remaining this year; they head to Eastbourne on Sunday with a six point lead in the Knockout Cup Final.

BIRMINGHAM 57: Jack Parkinson-Blackburn 16+1, Tom Bacon 12+1, Jack Smith 11+4, Tom Perry 8+2, Mitchell Davey 6+1, Darryl Ritchings 4+2, Danyon Hume R/R.

EASTBOURNE 33: Adam Ellis 14, Jake Knight 7, Ellis Perks 5, Tom Brennan 5, Charley Powell 2, Nathan Stoneman 0, Lee Geary 0, Gary Cottham R/R.

Birmingham win 94-83 on aggregate and are 2016 National League Champions.
