BIRMINGHAM'S speedway stars took another step towards a place in the Premier League play-offs with a 63-29 demolition of Edinburgh at Perry Barr on Wednesday.

The Perry Barr side picked up the aggregate bonus point as they ended their regular league home schedule on a high - now they need more away points to make sure of a top four finish.

Skipper Jason Lyons was immaculate in his 15-point maximum and Henning Bager, who only joined the club last month, dropped just a point to an opposing rider in his 15+2 haul.

His only defeat was in the opening race when Edinburgh took the lead for the only time on the night as Derek Sneddon shot from the start with Bager second and George Stancl third.

Brummies bounced back with reserves Lee Smart and Ben Powell gaining a 5-1 maximum in the next race... and from that moment they never looked back.

Matthew Wethers was used as a tactical ride with double-points for the Monarchs but by this stage it was all too late as the rampant Brummies were on their way to a massive win.

The next meeting at Perry Barr is the Alan Pearce Memorial Trophy next Wednesday, September 12. It will include the stars of tomorrow and admission prices will be reduced.

BIRMINGHAM: Henning Bager 15+2, Jason Lyons 15, Manuel Hauzinger 12, Henrik Moller 10+3, Lee Smart 6+2, Ben Powell 5.
