BIRMINGHAM raced to a vital 49-40 win against Cradley to secure another four National League points.

On a tense, nail-biting night, it was the Surestop Brummies who came out on top in a close third tier encounter between the league's top two sides.

The Brummies lead their Perry Barr co-tenants by just one-point with two races to go, but back-to-back 5-1's saw them wrap up the full four league 'away' points available.

Skipper Tom Perry said: "That was another really important win for us and to see what it meant to the fans again was great.

"Cradley pushed us all the way but we stuck at it and got the job done.

"This could be a massive result come the end of the year, but for now we're delighted to keep our 100 per cent league record going."

Teenage sensation Zach Wajtknecht dropped just one point from five rides and set a new National League track record in Heat 3 with a time of 59.18.

Adam Ellis romped to double-figures once again, only missing out on a paid maximum due to a fall in Heat 13.

Adam Kirby enjoyed his best meeting of the season with a crucial nine paid twelve point haul from reserve.

Tom Perry picked up three second places and arguably a match saving ride in Heat 13 when going from third to first on the opening lap as the Heathens sat on a 5-1.

Sam Chapman rode through the pain barrier to score an important four points and improved as the meeting went on.

Alex Wilson had a tough time in the main body once again while Sean Phillips only had one ride after a nasty tumble in Heat Two.

The Brummies now travel to Loomer Road on Saturday where they look to add more points to their league tally.
