BIRMINGHAM gave a top heavy display to see off rivals Coventry 52-40 and move back to the top of the City Gearboxes National League table on Wednesday.

The Surestop Brummies had three riders in unstoppable form with skipper Tom Perry, Adam Ellis and brilliant teenager Zach Wajknecht carding a staggering 45-points between them.

Manager Graham Drury had mixed feelings after the meeting despite seeing his team of youngsters maintain their impressive run of results.

He said: “We were very strong at the top, but some of the riders lower down the order struggled which causes me some concern.

“We will get turned over at some stage if we don’t click as a team and there is still a lot of improvement to come.

“I’m pleased with the result, of course I am, but we need to look at certain things and try to keep improving.

“It’s a big meeting against Cradley next week here at Perry Barr and we’ll need everyone firing on cylinders. I’m looking closely at that meeting and what we can do to make us as strong as possible.”

There was defeat for Wajtknecht, however, when he missed out in the Bronze Helmet match race to visiting No.1 Dan Greenwood.

BIRMINGHAM 52: Tom Perry 17+1, Adam Ellis 14+1, Zach Wajtknecht 11+1, Adam Kirby 5+1, Alex Wilson 4, Robert Parker 1, Sam Chapman R/R.

COVENTRY 40: Martin Knuckey 11+3, Dan Greenwood 9+1, Darryl Ritchings 9+1, Rob Shuttleworth 5+1, Conor Dwyer 4+2, Callum Walker 2, Luke Crang R/R.
