A BRAVE effort from the depleted Selco Brummies could not prevent a 60-32 defeat against star-studded Poole at Wimborne Road.

With Bartosz Zmarzlik and Daniel Nermark both missing plus owner Alan Phillips stepping away from the club earlier in the day, Birmingham travelled down to Dorset under far from ideal circumstances.

BSPA vice chairman Jon Cook met with riders before the meeting to assure them their wages for the next two meetings would be covered by the sports' governing body to keep the club going whilst in takeover talks.

And the Perry Barr outfit responded with a gutsy display before eventually being outclassed by a strong Pirates side.

British duo Danny King and Ben Barker led the visitors with typically determined showings, whilst Paul Starke and Simon Lambert also fought hard for solid contributions and provided the Brummies' only 5-1 in heat two.

Guesting Josh Auty and Nico Covatti put in battling displays albeit for little reward with the Pirates in inspired form, and with rider replacement returning just one point at No.1 the visitors simply lacked the necessary firepower against a powerhouse Poole side.

Despite being unable to add to their Elite League points tally, team boss Jack Lee was proud of his side for their efforts - and he says their attentions now turn to Monday's trip to Belle Vue.

He said: "To come down to Poole without a No.1 and with them at full strength was always going to be a difficult task.

"The lads tried their best under the circumstances we were in, and to get 32 points wasn't a bad effort really. There was some good racing and the boys made some good starts but the Poole boys were brilliant and were really dialled in with the setups.

"Hopefully everything will be sorted out as soon as possible and we can get back to something like normal. For the time being we are all systems go and just concentrating on trying to put in a good performance on Monday at Belle Vue."

POOLE 60: Maciej Janowski 15, Vaclav Milik 11+1, Przemysl aw Pawlicki 9+3, Josh Grajczonek 9, Kyle Newman 8+3, Darcy Ward 7+2, Ben Hopwood 1.
