BIRMINGHAM put in comfortably their best performance of the season as they stormed to a 52-44 victory over Eastbourne at Perry Barr.

The Selco Brummies were in inspired form as they added three huge points to their Elite League tally courtesy of a confidence-boosting triumph.

They were forced to withstand a late Eagles charge - sparked by two successful tactical rides - yet a heroic ride from the back from Ben Barker in heat 15 ensured they took maximum points.

It was a hugely encouraging night for Jack Lee's men as they continue to take massive strides following a slow start to the campaign.

And team boss Lee was thrilled to see his side record their biggest win of the season.

He said: "Fair play to all the riders, they pulled together and managed to get the job done. They did it the hard way a lot of the time coming from behind but it was a great performance.

"This shows we can do it, so we just need to take a lot of confidence from tonight and keep moving forward.

"We are smiling for a change and we are all on a high so hopefully this can be a sign of things to come."

Barker's heat 15 fireworks earned him a well-deserved Rider of the Night award as he recaptured his best form with an all-action performance.

He received able back up from Danny King and Daniel Nermark who both impressed in the main body to continue their strong runs of form.

Despite being without injury victim Adam Skornicki, talented Australian Nick Morris stepped in and proved a capable guest, whilst Nico Covatti also ended an encouraging night on a high with a classy heat 12 win.

He was joined at the front in that race by the impressive Paul Starke, as he battled past Timo Lahti in spectacular style to cap off another fine evening.

His reserve partner Simon Lambert also worked hard for a vital contribution as the Brummies gained a priceless momentum boost following a night of exhilarating action.

BIRMINGHAM 52: Ben Barker 12+1, Daniel Nermark 9+1, Paul Starke 8+1, Danny King 8, Nico Covatti 7+1, Nick Morris 5+2, Simon Lambert 3+2.

EASTBOURNE 44: Bjarne Pedersen 14, Cameron Woodward 12+2, Lewis Blackbird 8, Timo Lahti 5, Steve Worrall 4, Joonas Kylmakorpi 1, Daniel Halsey 0.
