BIRMINGHAM slipped to a narrow 42-48 defeat against King's Lynn despite a determined effort on a glorious evening at Perry Barr.

In the Midlands sunshine, the Selco Brummies were stunned by a late surge from the patched up Stars - yet the meeting was marred by a heavy heat 13 crash for Adam Skornicki.

The Polish ace has been arguably the star performer of 2014 for the Brummies - yet he suffered suspected muscle damage to his left leg after slamming into the deck.

Skornicki will now face an anxious wait for the results of scans after he was taken to hospital for further examination.

Team boss Jack Lee admitted his side simply ran out of steam following the loss of their No.1 as they were left frustrated by a narrow defeat.

Said Lee: "It was really disappointing - early on it looked like we might be in for a good night but we just tailed off towards the end.

"It was a real shame to lose Adam in that heat 13 crash, and we just hope his injury isn't too serious.

"Losing him knocked the stuffing out of us a bit and we were really disappointed not to get the win in the end, but our main concern is Adam at the moment."

Prior to his unfortunate crash, Skornicki had been in excellent form for the hosts, recording two composed race wins earlier on as the Brummies made a strong start.

Skipper Danny King also continued his upturn in form to make double figures despite being controversially excluded following a clash with team-mate Ben Barker in heat 11.

Swedish star Daniel Nermark also earned a well deserved heat 15 appearance whilst Paul Starke chipped in with an excellent nine points at reserve.

Yet Barker endured a tough evening despite being in the thick of the action throughout - and with Nico Covatti and Simon Lambert both having nights to forget the Brummies fell just short in what was an exciting clash.

BIRMINGHAM 42: Danny King 10, Paul Starke 9, Daniel Nermark 8+1, Adam Skornicki 8, Ben Barker 5+1, Nico Covatti 1, Simon Lambert 1.
