DEPLETED Birmingham slipped to a 62-30 defeat at Eastbourne in their second Elite League meeting of the season.

Jack Lee's side went into the meeting missing three of their first team members due to a clash of fixtures - Edward Kennett and reserve duo Paul Starke and Simon Lambert were on Premier League duty.

But the Eagles, including young Danish sensation Mikkel Michelsen and former Perry Barr star Bjarne Pedersen, had too much all-round strength for the Selco Brummies.

After four heats Birmingham were only two-points down but the Sussex side hit top gear from then on and there was no way back.

And when Ben Barker was used as a tactical ride for double points he let a promising start slip as Pedersen and Timo Lahti worked hard to notch a home 5-1.

Skipper Danny King managed a second place on the double, but with Michelsen and Cameron Woodward unstoppable the home side piled on the points in the closing stages.

Now the Selco Brummies will be looking to bounce back when Lakeside visit Perry Barr on Wednesday.

EASTBOURNE 62: Mikkel Michelsen 14+1, Cameron Woodward 12+3, Bjarne Pedersen 10+1, Timo Lahti 9+1, Lewis Blackbird 7, Dan Halsey 5+2, Joonas Kylmakorpi 5.

BIRMINGHAM 30: Danny King 7, Adam Skornicki 7, Daniel Nermark 7, Ben Barker 3+1, Ben Morley 3, Rohan Tungate 2, Benji Compton 1+1.
